Several examples have been seen where the leading and trailing letter(s) of the ownership marking seem to rest underneath the uprights.  They do.

 

In the original design the uprights are attached to the bottom of the globe housing.  The second design used uprights that attached to the fount.  If the fount had already been marked for the original design and the wording was lengthy then the uprights would cover part of it.

 

If/when subsequent orders were placed the founts were re-stamped such that the wording fit correctly between the uprights.
