Second Generation Model 40
The top horizontal ring is now attached to the font with three pressed steel uprights. The pressed steel clamp attached to the dome catches the top ring. The next Embury modification was to move the horizontal globe guard wire such that it ran through holes in pressed uprights rather than attached to flat uprights and is below the globe focal point. This type may be considered either Embury [E2] or Dietz [D2]; the difference being that the filler caps are of a different diameter. Also note the slight difference near the bottom of the uprights. (Embury burners also had a flat Y wick raiser, Dietz round O.) Later variations on the standard Dietz lantern involved bail attachment and an extra hole in each upright stamping at the wick-raiser level. (R. Meyer photo) |
